Statement of Faith – The Formational

What We Believe

Statement of Faith

At The Formational, everything we do grows out of what we believe. We are a Christian organisation, and we hold the historic faith of the Church – not as a set of rules, but as a living reality that shapes how we understand people, healing, and transformation. The statement below is our confession: where we stand, what we trust, and the foundation beneath every course, conversation, and resource we offer.

Our Confession of Faith

The following is based on the Nicene Creed, the historic confession of the universal Church.

God the Father.  We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

Jesus Christ.  We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father; God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God; begotten, not made; of one being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven, was incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became truly human. For our sake He was crucified, died, and was buried; on the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.

The Holy Spirit.  We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son (included in the Western tradition); who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified; who has spoken through the prophets; who indwells and renews the people of God, forming the likeness of Christ and empowering witness and service.

The Church.  We believe in one holy, catholic (universal), and apostolic Church, the communion of saints across time and place. We confess one baptism into Christ, and we receive the Lord’s Supper as a grace-filled remembrance and proclamation of His death and resurrection until He comes.

Further Affirmations

We affirm the divine inspiration, trustworthiness, and final authority of Holy Scripture in all it teaches for faith and life.

We confess that all people are made in God’s image, fallen through sin, and in need of salvation. We proclaim that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, adopted into God’s family, and called to live in holiness, love, and hope.

We hope in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come, when God makes all things new.

What This Means in Practice

These convictions are not background theology. They are the active framework behind every program, resource, and conversation The Formational offers.

01  Scripture and Formation

We teach from the Bible with Christ at the centre, aiming for heart-level transformation rather than mere information transfer.

02  Whole-Person Healing

We address spiritual, emotional, and relational brokenness – including the root wounds that drive our patterns – through prayer, discipleship, and practical tools grounded in grace and truth.

03  Marriage, Family, and Community

We honour God’s design for covenant faithfulness, encourage healthy relationships and family rhythms, and value both marriage and singleness lived unto the Lord.

04  The Spirit’s Work

We depend on the Holy Spirit for new birth, sanctification, wisdom, character, and gifts expressed in love for the building up of the Church.

05  Mission and Mercy

We join Jesus in making disciples, practising justice and compassion, and serving the poor and vulnerable.

06  Freedom in Christ

We take seriously both the reality of darkness and the completeness of Christ’s victory over it. We pursue freedom through repentance, forgiveness, and prayerful dependence on God – resting in His triumph over sin, death, and the powers of darkness.

07  Unity in Essentials

We hold the historic core of the faith firmly and extend generosity where faithful Christians differ. Unity in essentials, liberty in non-essentials, charity in all things.

We are a people formed by faith, called to wholeness, and sent in love.
